BIO-CONVERSION OF SOLID WASTE TO ORGANIC FERTILIZER
Composting is nature's way of recycling, agro wastes such as grasses, corn cub etc were used to make compost. The agro wastes used contain nutrients such as carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and moisture which are essential elements required by microorganisms to produce quality compost. There was a reduction in percentage lignin content and percentage cellulose content by 23.08% and 2.5% respectively. This signifies that microorganisms are breaking down the compost sample. The percentage nitrogen content was 1.024% using kjeldahl method of determination. The unwanted grass clippings that are found littering the environment can be used to produce compost which helps to nourish and replenish the nutrients in the soil. Conversion of these agro wastes to compost will reduce environmental pollution and also aid in alleviation of poverty.
